Guitarist Gil Gutierrez, a longtime favorite with audiences in San Miguel de Allende, will appear in a special, one-night-only concert on Thursday, December 27th in Teatro Angela Peralta. Joining Gutierrez for this exciting event will be pianist Gabriel Hernandez and violinist Charlie Bisharat, who will be performing in San Miguel for the first time.

"I am especially excited to introduce Charlie to my friends in San Miguel," said Gutierrez. "We have been working together for a couple of years now and we love making music together. He is a great musician and we really enjoy challenging each other onstage, constantly improvising and riffing off of each other."

Bisharat is a Grammy-winning violinist who has appeared, toured and recorded with many artists, including Yanni and john Tesh. He was a member of Shadowfax, with whom he won a Grammy in 1988 for best New Age Performance. His work can be heard on more than 200 recordings and on numerous film scores.

In 2010 Bisharat joined Gutierrez and acclaimed trumpeter Doc Severinsen to form the San Miguel 5, and since then they have appeared together in concerts throughout the United States with symphony orchestras, including the New York Pops in Carnegie Hall in 2011. Gutierrez and Bisharat are finishing work on two CD's, one with Severinsen & the San Miguel 5 and the other featuring guitar and violin duets.

The December 27th concert will also give San Miguel audiences the chance to hear Cuban pianist Gabriel Hernandez before he embarks on a two-month concert tour through the US with the Afro-Cuban All Stars. Hernandez is well known to audiences throughout the world from his many appearances with such musical giants as Chick Corea, Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, and Ray Charles. Gutierrez and Hernandez began working together in 2011. "We were looking for a new sound, combining piano and guitar," Gutierrez explained. "We are thrilled to have been invited to perform together at the Orford Festival in Quebec City on July 19 & 20, 2013."

Rounding out the ensemble on the stage of Teatro Angela Peralta will be Kimani Carranza from Cuba on percussion and Ruben Olvera from San Miguel on bass. The December 27th concert will begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be picked up in advance at the Teatro box office beginning on December 6th.

Many San Miguelenses have enjoyed the music of Gil Gutierrez and Charlie Bisharat in their concerts in the US, and many others have heard Gutierrez and Gabriel Hernandez display their unique sound in performances in San Miguel de Allende. On Thursday, December 27th, San Miguel will finally have the pleasure of hearing these three magnificent musicians work their magic together.
