Jennifer is a certified Iyengar Instructor (Jr. 1) who trained at the Iyengar Institute of NY and regularly in India with the Iyengar family and with other top teachers. She now teaches and hosts retreats in her studio. Classes are fun & rigorous.

“I studied many styles before discovering the Iyengar method. Using what we know, the body in order to uncover and explore what we don’t know makes this method deeply profound. Yoga has affected me greatly and I enjoy bringing it to others and to witness them gain understanding and freedom in their lives. I like teaching those who think yoga isn’t for them. They Iyengar method is designed to include people of all physical levels. Students who are curious learners, intelligent thinkers and adventurous explorers are drawn to this method."

10:00am  meditation: w/ the SMA Meditation Community

10:00am-10:50am
Cost: free, donation
Location: LifePath, Rinconada de la Aldea 29
Contact: jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877
Website: www.lifepathretreats.com

The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind. It allows one to see through the mind’s conditioning and thereby live more fully in the present moment.

The SMA Meditation Community is an open, flowing collection of people from different traditions (including various Buddhist lineages) who share a love of sitting in silence. We also share a love of spiritual community free of doctrine or belief, based in equality and mutual respect. Everyone is welcome. Because friendships with like-minded people support the inner path, we usually meet informally after sittings to share ideas and come to know one another.

Although the forty-minute silent meditations begin at 10:10 and end at 10:50, please feel free to come and go quietly at any time. Meditation assistance is available before or after the sit.

For more in-depth meditation instruction, ask Ann Barden (Vipassana) or Jerry Steward (general) at jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877.

All offerings are free, donations welcome. For more information or to be on our mailing list, contact: SMAMC@lifepathretreats.com

Qi Gong - A gentle movement practice for everybody -- and every body. Learn this easy way to calm the mind and heal your body.

Qi Gong, pronounced “Tchi Kong”, is a cousin of Tai Chi Chuan and is also part of one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It means “control (or work) of the energy".The practice consists of slow and non-violent movements, combined with breath exercises and concentration of the mind. Thanks to the breath work, this thousand-year-old discipline helps the circulation of energy through the body. The regular practice of Qi Gong calms and relaxes the mind. It reinforces the neuromuscular system and makes it more flexible. It optimizes the functions of the organism and sustains the strength of self-recovery. It guarantees good health and vitality.A practice for everybody, regardless of sex, religion, age or physical condition.Drop-ins welcome

Mama Mia

San Miguel's musical connection, a great place to dance rock, funk or salsa to live music. You can then go on to Leonardo's Bar, the ideal video bar, to get together with new and old friends. Leonardo's is one of the friendliest places in town where, sooner or later, everybody meets. La Terraza offers a spectacular view and, together with the music, a very sophisticated atmosphere.

Nice, dark, Mexican place on the Jardin with a festive jukebox playing very Mexican tunes. The bar has a cool modern feel to it despite the music wafting through the windows. The special changes daily and it may be different or a different time from what's listed here but every day it's written on the sandwich board at the front door.

It's directly in front of the oh-so-amazing taco stand on San Francisco.

One of the well known, comfortable gringo hangouts in town, Longhorn is a great place to gather for live music, sports, and friendly faces. There's seating outside with umbrellas or inside on rainy days, and it's a great place for burgers and ribs.

Happy Hour is 2x1 everyday except Thursday and the 1st Saturday of the month. Beer, wine, margaritas, well drinks. Live music Wednesdays, Friday and Saturday.

Cool, comfortable new place called Tapas SMA by the adorable Swedish couple Anders and Kajsa along with Antonio. You may know them and their food as Dos Suecos Catering. Pretty stone and arches, nice music, at a level that gives atmosphere but allows conversation. Just 2.5 blocks down from the Jardin. Their prices are excellent on drinks and small plates.
2x1 Drink of the Week (like Cucumber Margarita, Celery Margarita), well drinks, and any drink with the Swedish inspired vodka, Gotland. Fitting, eh?
Their Celery Margarita may sound weird but it won the Most Exotic Margarita in San Miguel. I don't know about you, but I'm partial to anything called exotic, plus it's green and healthy-feeling. :-) I've had one and I highly recommend it!

This is a restaurant with an inner courtyard and a surprisingly affordable menu ($90-140). All during dinner time margaritas and sangria are 2x1. The normal prices are $65 and $55, respectively, so this is a great dinner accompaniment!

It's closer than it might seem...from Umaran, turn left on the street after Mama Mia and it's just half a block down on the right. Very friendly staff.

It's hard to choose the best rooftop bar in San Miguel and this has to be on the list for consideration. Chic place with lounge music, looking at the front of Angela Peralta Museum (which is very pretty at the top), and the sides of the Parrochia and San Francisco. Go into the entrance of CasaLinda Hotel, past La Noche Piano Bar, through Bugambilia Restaurant, and up the stairs to the left.

Happy Hour is beer, rum, tequila.

My new favorite rooftop terrace bar! Gorgeous view, excellent wine list (it's owned by a wine distributor), friendly staff, a blue-tiled pool, and the BEST SUNSET HAPPY HOUR in San Miguel!

Wine and cocktails are always 2x1 during HH, however on Thursday and Friday, they bring out the agave! Shots and cocktails with tequila and mezcal are all 2x1 as well. Woohoo! When in Mexico...

Keep in mind that things change around this town so ask the bartender before you order, and be flexible.

My favorite dinner & drink deal in town! NOTE: THIS MAY NOT RUN THROUGH FALL SO CHECK WITH THEM FIRST.

Bezzito is a shi-shi restaurant and bar on Hernandez Macias, just down from Umaran with a GORGEOUS rooftop. During the summer they do a $200 all you can eat AND drink special on Thursdays and Fridays. They serve tapas like sliders, arrachera, artichoke or salmon tostadas, and pizza. They bring one of each for each person and you can re-order whatever you want. But the best part is unlimited drinks - Tradicional, Smirnoff, rum - as well! Seriously??

They creatively call it Brunch but don't let their sketchy English fool you. It is indeed in the evening and it's tapas and drinks.

Our center, located two blocks behind the Parroquia in the heart of San Miguel Centro, offers a variety of weekly meditation programs and occassional weekend events.

Throughout the year we offer various programs of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as advanced meditation practices.

Shambhala vision is rooted in the contemplative teachings of Buddhism, yet is a fresh expression of the spiritual journey for our time. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.

A new bar with REAL beer in San Miguel. That's exciting for this Oregon girl, and apparently plenty of other people as well. It's a cool, friendly, neighborhood hang-out kind of place. More importantly, the beer prices are very doable at $55-$85 which means great beer for all! Alex, the owner, built everything in the place, from the bar to the tables. It's very well done.

Each day (except Tues, Wed) has Happy Hour AND a different special, and each one is a great reason to go.
Happy Hour is 3x2 Cocktails, $50 Beer & Mezcal Combo, FREE guacamole
On Sunday Funday starting after HH, the 5th beer is free for the rest of the night. Any type of beer!

Located a block up from the Jardin on the left. Look for the chalkboard sandwich board on the sidewalk and wide entrance.

And then there’s Max, the ever-present owner and manager who seems genuinely devoted to making sure everyone is having a good time. The beef, which gets top billing, is succulent and generously served; the fish and chicken are excellent, and the Caesar salad is something special.

One of my favorite hangouts in San Miguel, with a friendly feeling, great martinis, and during a sports season Kenny has the game on with commentary in English. Ask what Happy Hour is when you go in, but at any time, the specialty martinis are 1/2 off if you order at the bar by name of the Blues artist. (There's a little sign on the end of the bar so you can cheat.)

Keep in mind that things do change around SMA, so be flexible with HH plans!

This is one of the oldest restaurants in San Miguel, and for good reason. They've moved a few times but they're now on Mesones, just before Hernandez Macias with a pretty interior coutyard. Tuesdays are Happy Hour with 2x1 margaritas, wine and beer. The margaritas are STRONG!

TIP: Ask Candelaria how long she's worked at Bugambilia. (She's a doll!)
TIP#2: The specialty is Chile en Nogada

Mama Mia

San Miguel's musical connection; a great place to dance rock, funk or salsa to live music. There's often music in the main restaurant straight back from the front door, which attracts a crowd anywhere from 25-75. Leonardo's, the friendly bar on the left has big couches and a horseshoe bar made for meeting people. The Mama Mia Bar on the right is the hip, dark, crowded bar with live bands or karaoke Wed - Sat. La Terraza on the roof offers a spectacular view and plenty of shade, even during hot months.

There’s something about Tío Lucas that makes a night there feel like the epitome of a great vacation. The food is rich and flavorful, the open patio setting is charming, and the bar is a cozy alternative for those who just want to hang out and enjoy the music. And then there’s Max, the ever-present owner and manager who seems genuinely devoted to making sure everyone is having a good time. The beef, which gets top billing, is succulent and generously served; the fish and chicken are excellent, and the Caesar salad is something special.

Location: 78 Hernandez Macias

My favorite dinner & drink deal in town! NOTE: THIS MAY NOT RUN THROUGH FALL SO CHECK FIRST.

This is one of the few late night Happy Hours in San Miguel, so when you stumble out of an afternoon HH and you're looking for the place to continue... Limerick is the place for you! It's a party atmosphere with a long bar and plenty of seating.

National beers and mixed drinks are 2x1 on Thursdays. "National" meaning Mexican, not Irish. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a leprechaun in here anyway...

El Tomato Restaurant

Our Concept and Philosophy
The concept of El Tomato, since Mariano Alvarez took over in December 2008, is an Argentine Italian Fusion, where rustic comfort food meets authentic argentine flavors and traditional italian dishes, using local ingredients & family recipes. Some items you may find on the menu are argentine cuts, steaks, sausages, empanadas, provoleta, pastas, ravioli, risotto, gnocci, lasagna, abundant salads. There is also a wide selection of wines, specializing in varieties from Argentina and Italy. Ask about the monthly wine tastings with food pairing. You’ll find this cooking approach will leave you delightfully surprised and wanting to come back soon for some more.

Mama Mia is the "always happening" spot in San Miguel, with live music, karaoke, late night entertainment or chill dinner music. There's the main restaurant (for adults), a side sports bar, a rooftop terrace, and another side crazy nightspot for those who are or want to be under 39. It's a place where you can start or end your night in San Miguel.

No Happy Hours or drink specials (because they're too cool and don't need it) but always something going on!

Do you feel stressed, stiff? Could you use more positive energy in your life? Would you like to find the key to lasting happiness? If your answer is yes, then Yoga Flow is for you.

Yoga Flow is yoga with visualization to create your best life. From your first class with Yoga Flow you’ll feel better than you have in years. You’ll transform your body and mind by reconnecting with YOURSELF. You’ll gain inner peace, positive energy, and flexibility in every class. The Yoga Flow method is rooted in knowing we have the power to create our world by choosing our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. That is our power.

In addition to receiving the amazing benefits of yoga, you’ll begin to attract positive energy into your life and create your own happiness from the inside out. Everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace and challenge yourself accordingly, no matter what your level. You will feel relaxed, peaceful, and stronger after every class. The more you do it, the more you receive the rewards and benefits of the Yoga Flow practice.

Yoga Flow classes have a duration of 1½ hours each. You will learn how to work and co-create with archangelic energies and powerful mantras.

Benefits of Yoga Flow These are just some of the benefits to practicing Yoga Flow on a regular basis. People often report feeling more immediate effects from the practice by committing to 3 or more classes per week:

Reduce and manage stress Renewed sense of purpose and improved relationships Able to manage emotions easier Eliminate bodily aches and pains Feeling of inner peace Able to handle life’s up and down’s more effectively Sleep better Become stronger , more toned Gain flexibility Feeling positive and more happiness on a regular basis Breathe better Reduced or eliminated emotional eating Greater appreciation for life Better body image and self talk Feeling relaxed Greater confidence Better posture (one client even reported growing 1/2 inch according to her doctor!) The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind.

We have always wanted to be happy. All of us, animals and humans.
We have sought happiness in rest, our couple, beaches, money, family, possessions, occasional solitude, entertainment, rituals, study, health, sports, parties, friends, work and ... we have found very enjoyable moments, but unfortunately impermanent. They disappear suddenly or are interrupted by problems and disappointments continually.
Buddha explains the secret of happiness as something more internal and something we can control, because the outside world is impossible to control permanently. His practical tips are deep and suitable for everyone, Buddhist and non-Buddhist, youth, adults, men, women, old, rich and poor ... Come to the Biblioteca de San Miguel to listen to a Mexican Buddhist nun Kelsang Sangshe, simple, cheerful and clearly explains weekly the secret to discover and maintain the complete happiness for yourself and others.
Join us every Monday at Gloria Grant Room from 5 to 6:30 pm. Donation: $ 50 pesos.

Donativo: $50 pesos.

Kenny does close often on Mondays so have a backup plan just in case.

Just steps off the Jardin, with a super long Happy Hour, Azotea always draws a crowd. From Sunday through Wednesday you can get 2x1 margaritas, mojitos, and wine from 12pm - 12am. Great if you're looking for light, sweet drinks on a rooftop. The view is obscured by awnings but it keeps the sun off the guests. My favorite part is the little carafe of free peanuts.

Keep in mind, bars often change their specials so be sure to ask before you order!

To provide spiritual strength to alleviate the feeling of isolation and loneliness by means of providing social interaction in their weekly lunch serving physical and spiritual food.

We value their belief and respect their human dignity and help restore hope in the last portion of their life.

Is a charitable organization founded in February 1989 . Each Wednesday for the past 23 years something very unique and empowering takes place in the sunny courtyard behind the Parroquia. Long tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths are set up under laurel trees.

The tables are numbered according to age 65-95; the elders will be served fírst. Before the food is served, their thin old voices are lifted in a song of gratitude...

And then there’s Max, the ever-present owner and manager who seems genuinely devoted to making sure everyone is having a good time. The beef, which gets top billing, is succulent and generously served; the fish and chicken are excellent, and the Caesar salad is something special.

NOTE: If there's a live band, HH doesn't apply, however the 1/2 off martini by name at the bar deal still stands.

The Longhorn Smokehouse Bar & Grill was started in 2006 by Keith Thompson, an Englishman with a love for Texas BBQ.

Keith moved to San Miguel after a 25+ year stint in Houston, Texas. Although cooking wasn't his profession while in Texas, he certainly had a knack for it...and for throwing a good party (it's true, just ask any of his friends). It was always his dream to open a bar and restaurant, and San Miguel offered him this opportunity.

Keith took his talents to San Miguel after falling in love with the town in 2005. An avid Texas Longhorns fan (daughter Kerri is a UT Austin alum), the name of the restaurant was a "no-brainer." His BBQ is the product of years of hard work -- the ribs are moist, the beef is top notch and the key lime pie is divine.

Keith's motto is "If you go away hungry or thirsty, it's your own fault"

Our center, located two blocks behind the Parroquia in the heart of San Miguel Centro, offers a variety of weekly meditation programs and occassional weekend events.

Throughout the year we offer various programs of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as advanced meditation practices.

Shambhala vision is rooted in the contemplative teachings of Buddhism, yet is a fresh expression of the spiritual journey for our time. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.
