04:00pm  spirit: Prayer and Contemplation Group

04:00pm-

Location: St Paul's Church, Cardo 6
Contact:
Website:

Mary Jane Miller is organizing an 8 week directed group for prayer and and contemplation at St Paul's Anglican Church . The focus will be on Advent first and conclude with the Christmas season. We will ask what it means to come into the world, and the spiritual life which is activated as a result. Centering prayer, contemplative prayer and the prayer of quiet are all going to be explored in an effort to open ourselves to listening to God and remembering whose we are.
Beginning December1st and January 19th at St Paul's Church
The format will be simple, 20 minutes of quiet, 20 minutes of conversation, discussion observation, etc and finalize the time with another 20 minutes of quiet. 4 weeks in Advent and 4 weeks following Christmas, 50 pesos donation per session and there is no requirement you come to them all.
Every Thursdays 4 PM
IDEAS to be EXPLORED
Advent tells us Christ is near and
Christmas tells us Christ is here.

Christmas represents God's brilliant idea to become human and walk among us! Why do such a thing? Because we need an image of love for it to grow within us, to show us the way and to have a reference point for what is true, good and lasting love.
Come and prepare a place within yourself. Epiphany is the Christian celebration of what other religions call enlightenment. Enlightenment is the inward realization and consciousness of being identified with who we really are. We are individual expressions or manifestations of God, a wave of energy, light and purpose which flows through us.
"All great spirituality teaches about letting go of what you don't need and who you are not. Then, when you can get little enough and naked enough and poor enough, you'll find that the little place where you really are is ironically more than enough and is all that you need. At that place, you will have nothing to prove to anybody and nothing to protect.
All are welcome to share tier insights and experiences. Peace

10:00am  meditation: w/ the SMA Meditation Community

10:00am-10:50am
Cost: free, donation
Location: LifePath, Rinconada de la Aldea 29
Contact: jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877
Website: www.lifepathretreats.com

The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind. It allows one to see through the mind’s conditioning and thereby live more fully in the present moment.

The SMA Meditation Community is an open, flowing collection of people from different traditions (including various Buddhist lineages) who share a love of sitting in silence. We also share a love of spiritual community free of doctrine or belief, based in equality and mutual respect. Everyone is welcome. Because friendships with like-minded people support the inner path, we usually meet informally after sittings to share ideas and come to know one another.

Although the forty-minute silent meditations begin at 10:10 and end at 10:50, please feel free to come and go quietly at any time. Meditation assistance is available before or after the sit.

For more in-depth meditation instruction, ask Ann Barden (Vipassana) or Jerry Steward (general) at jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877.

All offerings are free, donations welcome. For more information or to be on our mailing list, contact: SMAMC@lifepathretreats.com

Regularly scheduled tours take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Groups form in the Jardin across from the Parroquia (large church) at 9:45 AM, and leave promptly at 10:00 AM.

05:00pm  film: Starring Pancho Villa as Himself

05:00pm-
Cost: 100
Location: Shelter Theater, Vicente Guerrero 4
Contact: 154-7524
Website:

English

Francisco “Pancho” Villa was a Mexican revolutionary leader who advocated for the poor and promised agrarian reform. Though also a ruthless bandit and opportunist, many Mexicans remember him fondly as their ‘Robin Hood’, fighting the dictator Porfirio Diaz. In 1909, Villa was portrayed as a hero in the U.S. media too until Woodrow Wilson withdrew his support in 1916. Outraged, Villa led an army across the border and staged a brutal raid against Columbus, New Mexico. Bandito or hero? You decide, as we explore Hollywood’s love affair with Francisco “Pancho” Villa.

And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself on Friday, September 22th at 5 pm. Filmed almost entirely in and around San Miguel, this HBO film recounts the odd story of Pancho Villa’s film career when he invited American filmmakers to film his heroic battles against the Mexican government. What results is a surreal film-within-a-film as silent film stars compete with Pancho’s outsized ego (as magnificently portrayed by Antonio Banderas) for the camera’s affection. You’re sure to see faces and places you know in this one!

The Basics

2. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.

10:00am-11:00am

Volunteers needed

To provide spiritual strength to alleviate the feeling of isolation and loneliness by means of providing social interaction in their weekly lunch serving physical and spiritual food.

We value their belief and respect their human dignity and help restore hope in the last portion of their life.

Is a charitable organization founded in February 1989 . Each Wednesday for the past 23 years something very unique and empowering takes place in the sunny courtyard behind the Parroquia. Long tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths are set up under laurel trees.

The tables are numbered according to age 65-95; the elders will be served fírst. Before the food is served, their thin old voices are lifted in a song of gratitude...

Narco Cultura

By David Johanssen

To a growing number of Mexicans and Latinos, narco-traffickers have become iconic outlaws, glorified by ‘narco-corrido’ music which praises their new models of fame and success. They represent a pathway out of the ghetto, nurturing a new ‘American dream’ fueled by the thrills of money, drugs, and violence.

This week, Shelter Theater presents Narco Cultura, an explosive look at the drug cartels' pop culture influence on both sides of the border as experienced by an LA narco-corrido singer dreaming of stardom and a Juarez crime scene investigator on the front line of Mexico's drug war. The Washington Post says, “This haunting documentary contrasts songs saluting Mexican drug lords as heroic bandits with the harrowing reality of life in murder-stained Juarez.” We will have a discussion on how to deal with this glamorization of criminality after the documentary.
