This Saturday, the American artist Laura Honse invites you into her home to view her new magical collection of ready-made jewelry, fun pieces with an edge, surreal and playful. Old paintbrushes with layers of colors are recycled into extravagant loud necklaces, a ten inch plastic iguana becomes a neck adornment, a three inch wood African mask with tufts of hemp sprouting from its eyes and chin ceremoniously hangs from a long chain of mixed beads. Some necklaces are made of hundreds of buttons or dried nopal, driftwood or bone, one sports a vintage Mexican bullet, some end in dangling, dancing brass skeletons. A variety of vintage, glass, crystal, clay, wood, metal, resin and plastic beads are used side by side. Little skulls adorned with wings, atop lacy balls and butterflies, or wearing skirts of plastic leaves form long dangling earrings as do brass fish hanging from silver fishing poles. Bracelets in the style of Coco Chanel with fat, colorful beads are to be worn by the armful. The image shown is of a necklace created with a postmarked vintage Arab stamp depicting a classical nude painting which is encased in a glassed metal frame and strung with metal, glass, crystal and Venetian beads. Alongside her jewelry in the upstairs showroom, Laura's exotic hand-painted rebozos are also on display. Her contemporary photography is on view downstairs in the hallway and an adjacent room. She works in both black/white and color, in a variety of sizes up to one meter, on paper and on AluDibond. Her photography has been shown at El Nigromante Bellas Artes and at Centro Cultural de Leon. 
 
Laura Honse graduated from Rhode Island School of Design. She spent most of her life overseas in Brazil, Uruguay, Australia and most recently twenty years in Germany.
