André Pascal
Owner, André Pascal Salon

by Gregory R. Gunter

My friends all think I moved here from: Are you kidding? With a name like André Pascal, everybody thinks I'm French and just got off the boat from Paris. In truth, I moved here just over two years ago from Laguna Beach, California, but I was born in Marrakesh, trained in Madrid, and had salons in Paris - yes, there's that Paris connection - and Sausalito before moving to Laguna.

Stateside, I told people my occupation was: Hair stylist to the rich and famous, and everybody else! Hmmm, shall I drop names now that I'm in San Miguel? Well, Irvine's Don Bren - he was number 16 on the Forbes 400 List this year - was a good client. But women are my favorite! A few I've worked with: Jodie Foster, Victoria Principal (remember that gorgeous Dallas - do?), and Brenda Vaccaro - she's been on Nip/Tuck and The King of Queens.

In San Miguel, I wanted to reinvent myself as: To continue my legacy as a Master Coiffeur! You know, I could've become another, say, Bruno Pittini - the Parisian Dessange coiffeur for Catherine Deneuve and Raquel Welch - but he's no longer with us. I, however, am still around and now doing the equivalent of the Catherine's and Raquel's hair styles here in San Miguel, my newly adopted home. Names? Well, let's just say my clients are the well recognized - and well coiffed - beautiful people of San Miguel who read Atención. In fact, one of my, um, "unnamed" clients even writes for Atención!

In reality, here's what keeps me busy all day: Oh, the salon is my life - almost! I guess I do get out around town once in awhile. Besides caring for the beautiful people of San Miguel - yes, all of you - I get many wedding referrals from Linda Wacovich, some as many as six months in advance. The whole bride's party will come in for the day and it's quite the celebration! We also built a house last year in Rinconada de Balcones, and although the construction is finished and we're living there, it seems the details just continue forever!

Here's how I'd describe the perfect night on the town in San Miguel: Friday night going out for dinner and drinks with friends and family, Ilse my wife and Chloe my daughter, who just graduated from London's American Intercontinental University's School of Fashion - she just might become our new couturier for San Miguel! Our favorites in town are Sollano 16 - Manuel is fantastic! - Vivoli, and Bezzitos, great for drinks!

I'd love to support all the local charities, but these are special to me: I'm dedicated to all charities related to the care of animals and wildlife, so the SPA here in San Miguel and The World Wildlife Federation are favorites. All our pets - right now it's just Mopsy and Minouche - were adopted from animal shelters.
