Pila Seca Prolongación

Pila Seca Prolongación

The ancient tree grows up in the middle of the road,
its wide trunk rising, curved and twisted
out of the irregular cobble stones.
Occasionally a car must wait
beneath its broad boughs
in the shade of its forty-foot height
for an oncoming vehicle to pass.
This is done with great patience and care,
never a sign upon its rugged, gray bark
of etiquette violated.

Up the road,
up the hill towards the center
there was a spring where animals drank,
cows and horses and dogs,
which after many years of faithful service
ran dry,
remembered now only in the name of the road,
Pila Seca, "Dry Spring".

As the town grew so did the road,
extending down to the tree, already old by that time,
widening around it when the rounded cobbles came.

In this hot, dry land trees are valued,
some yet-pagan influence breaking through catholic edifice,
life rooted in a deeper soil
standing in the way of the traffic.

The Basics
1. A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
2. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.

Danza del Alma is an unguided, free expression form of dance where the music, and hence the body, follows an arch of rhythm from slow and fluid for warm up, to fast and uninhibited in the middle, to calm and meditative for warm down. Danza del Alma is based on Gabriel Roth’s “5 Rhythms”: This dance is “a soul journey… by moving the body, releasing the heart, and freeing the mind, one can connect to the essence of the soul, the source of inspiration in which an individual has unlimited possibility and potential.” – Gabriel Roth

Class etiquette:

o No outside shoes permitted. Special shoes for dancing inside only may be used.

o No perfume or other scents permitted. Some dancers are allergic.

o No talking permitted on the dance floor during class.

o Wear comfortable clothing. Shirts are required.

o Bring your own towel and drinking water.

o Doors to the dance salon are kept closed for privacy during class.

o No photos without consent of dancers.

Danza del Alma was founded in San Miguel de Allende in 1996. Our mission is to provide a safe and sacred space for all people wishing to explore their spirituality through music and movement.
