E.C. Bell arrived in San Miguel five years ago with the intent of just passing
through, but instead it has become his home. Within two months he had
completed enough work to be invited to show at a local gallery.
Many of his paintings in the past 12 years have featured the female nude, and
many in San Miguel know him from this body of work. Before that his main focus
was landscapes, almost always the pristine vistas around Charlestown, South
Carolina. But in 1989 hurricane "Hugo" destroyed much of his subject matter, and
he began to concentrate on the female form. In Charlestown, Bell is well-known
as an accomplished portrait painter. His work can be viewed in public buildings
and found in many private collections. He is also a sculptor who has worked with
both ceramics and bronze.
After 3 years in San Miguel he found a new studio and was inspired to return
to landscapes, this time very abstract landscapes.
